Full story spoilers follow. In the ending covered by IGN, Dylan uses the Hiss against Hedron after removing the device at his neck. His sacrifice is then reversed by Jesse: she saves him, but the epilogue leaves her unresponsive. The siblings' positions echo the original game's ending, with the burden of rescue passing back between them.

Why the final confrontation matters

IGN's account connects Jesse's work inside Hedron with the attempt to impose a pattern on reality. Dylan's interruption destabilizes that process, and the finale returns to memories of Ordinary as the links around Hedron are broken. The personal history is therefore part of the conflict, not simply a background reference for returning players.

Dylan's decisive act also changes his relationship with the Hiss. The power that previously took control of him becomes something he deliberately uses, at a cost he accepts. That is a reading of the scene's character arc; it does not establish that the Hiss has become harmless or that every remaining threat has disappeared.

What happens to Jesse?

The epilogue shows Jesse in a coma-like, unresponsive state after she saves Dylan. Her portrait remains in place. IGN reads that visual as evidence that the Board still recognizes her position, but it is an interpretation of the ending rather than a separate official promise about what happens next.

The final scene does not supply a recovery date or confirm the premise of another sequel. It leaves Dylan alive and Jesse's immediate condition unresolved. Distinguish those shown outcomes from predictions about future expansions.

Do you need the first game's story?

Knowing that Jesse previously saved Dylan makes the reversal easier to follow. For a short recap that avoids this page's final-scene detail, see Jesse's role and Dylan's background. Remedy's original character announcement supports that setup; the ending analysis here is attributed to IGN's recorded explanation, not an official developer interpretation.
